Chelow kabab is an Iranian dish and this is not really it. Peter Cat opened on Park Street in 1975 and put out a version with buttered saffron rice, a fried egg or a raw yolk to be beaten into the rice at the table, a grilled tomato, and one mutton seekh and one chicken shami kebab.
It became the single most ordered plate in the city and has not changed since. The waiters still wear the red turbans and cummerbunds.
There is no reservation system. There is a queue on the pavement, and on a Saturday evening it is forty minutes.
Order a Sizzler if you want the other thing Park Street does. Do not order both.
